Kyoto Prefectural University (KPU) is a public university founded in 1949. Kyoto is the ancient capital of Japan and is renowned as one of the world's top tourist destinations.
The main campus of KPU, Shimogamo Campus, is close to the center of Kyoto City: 20 minutes' ride on the subway from Kyoto station, plus five minutes' walk from Kitayama station.
Seika Campus is located in the southern part of the prefecture and the research farm is also there. KPU also has six research forests within the prefecture.
Education and research at KPU are also conducted in collaboration with other institutes which include the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Kyoto Botanical Gardens, Kyoto Institute, Library and Archives, and Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture.
